Kikatsi archdeaconry was curved off from Kashwa Archdeaconry in 2012 with its first Archdeacon as Ven Rev Gordon from 2012 – 2013. The second Archdeacon as Ven Rev Stephen Mujuni from 2014 to 2018, the third as Ven Rev Benon Baraire from 2019 to 2021 where I was ushered in as the Fourth Archdeacon 2022 to date.
The archdeaconry has 3 parishes namely Kikatsi parish led by myself, Kayonza parish led by Rev Erick Byakatonda and Kaikoti Parish led by Rev Herbert Tumusiime. We also have 3 Church of Uganda primary schools and one community founded school with one Church of Uganda Kikatsi seed secondary school.
Kikatsi Archdeaconry boarders with Kashwa Archdeaconry, Mbuga Archdeaconry, Sanga Archdeaconry and Ankole Diocese. The archdeaconry is located in the heart of the Ankole cattle corridor which were formally cattle ranches and is majorly affected by dry seasons which are characterized by lack of enough water and pastures for the animals.
In the recent times, the church has faced a challenge of promotion of the vice of homosexuality amongst Christians and in April 2023 the Church of Uganda gathered in the GAFCON 4 Conference in Kigali Rwanda where I represented Kikatsi Archdeaconry in the North Ankole Diocese delegation. The theme of the Conference was John 6:68 (“To whom shall we go?”) and we agreed to stick to Jesus Christ the one in whom all the fullness of God dwells in bodily form.
With confidence from the above scripture we collectively agreed to disagree with the actions of promoting the vice of homosexuality in the Anglican Church.
In conclusion, I take this profound opportunity to thank our Bishop Rt. Rev. Stephen Namanya since his consecration as the second Bishop of North Ankole Diocese. He has led a transformational patriotic leadership model which has transformed the Diocese in the following ways: education, through envisioning the model school system at every archdeaconry which has exponentially improved performance in majorly Church of Uganda schools in the Diocese, preaching the gospel of truth both in words and action while also planting churches in trading centers as All Saints Churches that have been established in the whole Diocese; health, by supporting the existing Church of Uganda health facilities and also pioneering the construction of the mega North Ankole Mission Hospital which when completed will solve most of the health challenges in the region.
With those brief remarks, I remain Rev. Canon David Rwitsa – the fourth Archdeacon of Kikatsi Archdeaconry in the year of our Lord 2023. God bless you.
